F.A.Q.s

Q: Why Brice’s Crossroads?

A: Brice’s Crossroads was a battle with many interesting layers and far-reaching connections. Whether it be the nearly perfect battlefield victory won by the Confederates, or the heroic actions of the black Union troops of the USCT, or the unorthodox use of artillery, or the post-battle connections to Andersonville Prison, the list could go on and on. We found this epic event in the wooded backroads of North Mississippi to be the perfect namesake for representing our organization.

Q: Are you a for-profit business or a non-profit organization?

A: We are a non-profit 501(c)3 organization recognized by the State of Mississippi and the IRS.

Q: Who makes up the leadership and executive positions for the Brice’s Crossroads Foundation?

A: We are an ALL-VOLUNTEER organization of history buffs and civic minded individuals
who enthusiastically promote Civil War history in North Mississippi. No one at the BCF is paid
and all of our efforts are put forth out of a passion for history and love for our local area.

Q: Do you have an official partnership with the National Park Service’s Brice’s Crossroads
National Battlefield Site and the Tupelo National Battlefield?

A: No, we are not in partnership with the NPS. We look forward to working with the NPS when
we do educational or informative videos or programs at their sites. We of course encourage
everyone to visit Civil War related NPS sites and we will help promote NPS events by sharing
information on our website and social media platforms with no expectation of receiving anything
in return from the NPS.

Q: Are you the same as the Brice’s Crossroads National Battlefield Commission?

A: No, we are not. The BCNBC focuses primarily on land acquisition and battlefield
preservation. They are one of the greatest success stories in the country when it comes to
acquiring historic battlefield land for future preservation. We are eager to help with interpretive
projects and visitor-use enhancements when authorized by the BCNBC, but they are a totally
separate organization.

Q: Will you work closely with the Mississippi’s Final Stands Civil War Interpretive Center?

A:  We are a separate organization, we will encourage visitation to the Center, and when asked help fund new interpretive projects for display in the  museum area, host events and speakers at the building.

Q: Will you work with any other entities or groups to help with interpretive or educational
projects?

A: Yes! North and Central Mississippi schools, museums, historical societies, genealogical
societies, historic sites, yes to all of those and anyone similar! If you are interested in hosting
events, speakers, or updating displays related to Civil War history, or anything like that please
contact us and we will see if we can help.

Q: We know you will help with interpretive projects and visitor-use enhancements, but what
about creative projects and programs?

A: Yes, in certain instances we could help with artistic or literary projects that have strong ties to
Civil War history in North Mississippi.

Q: How are membership fees and donations to BCF allocated and spent?

A: All money collected by the BCF goes to Civil War history related projects, events, and
promotion in North Mississippi, and maintaining and promoting the BCF organization and
membership itself. We do not pay salaries and instead rely heavily on volunteers.

Q: Why was the Brice’s Crossroads Foundation established?

A: Residing in North Mississippi it is easy for history buffs to see two things very quickly. First, we are surrounded by rich Civil War history. Second, there are people here, and all over the country as well, who are interested and passionate about these important historical events that took place right in our backyards.

In our area, there are great Civil War sites and museums, and active social media platforms for posting information and engaging in discussion about the War. However, there were no organizations dedicated to bringing together the people who care about this history in a way to foster collaboration, create a real-life in-person Civil War community, and direct our passion towards positive Civil War related projects right in this area, until now that is. The BCF will regularly host events, get-togethers, speakers, book discussion groups and much more.

While we believe that nothing is better than getting together in-person to discuss, learn about, and promote Civil War history with like-minded and similarly dedicated individuals, we will also offer many virtual opportunities to engage as well. Anybody, from anywhere, with an interest in the War is able to join and participate!

Best thing yet, the money raised for the Foundation will go towards helping and enhancing fantastic Civil War sites and museums.
